Unique to Distance Education

Some processes work differently for students who take classes off-campus whether they are at a site or online.

Class Cancellation & Inclement weather Policies and Procedures

In the case of adverse local conditions, students must make independent judgments about their individual situations based on the local hazards. Click here for more details.

Immunizations and Health Insurance:

Students who do not attend classes on campus are not required to complete an immunization form nor are they required to purchase health insurance. Notices about these requirements are sent to all students regardless of status, but it does not apply to distance education students. For more information see www.healthsvcs.uncc.edu

Student ID Cards

If you are required to come to campus for your program or you anticipate that you will visit campus regularly, you may want to obtain a picture ID (704-687-2138). Otherwise, the Distance Education office will have a no-photo ID made and mail it to you.

Course Evaluations:

Distance Education students have the same opportunity each semester to evaluate their professors as do on-campus students. Evaluations may be sent to you via mail or email, depending upon the academic department's prefered method. Both methods are anonymous and student input is very valuable.

Program Evaluations:

In addition to course evaluations, each year you will be asked to complete a Distance Education Program Evaluation. This evaluation provides you with the opportunity to comment on the services and support you received from the Office of Distance Education as well as other UNC Charlotte departments. These evaluations are important to the continual improvement of Distance Education services.

Exams:

Professors have approached assessing learning for distance education students in a variety of ways. Some use timed online quizzes, others use portfolios, papers, and other methods to gage knowledge acquisition. For those courses requiring proctored exams, students are responsible for securing a proctor. To learn whether your program requires proctored exams, and for further information about the process, check the program information.

On-Campus Orientations

Although you may receive a letter from admissions instructing you to attend an on campus SOAR or Graduate School orientation, Distance Education students are not required to attend these functions.
