Graduate Certificate Academically or Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Add-on Licensure Program

Program Information

This four-course online Graduate Certificate program is offered by the Department of Special Education and Child Development and meets North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (DPI) requirements for AIG Add-on teacher licensure.

NOTE: This is a four-course 12-credit hour Graduate Certificate program. The AIG Graduate Certificate description, in the 2007-2009 Graduate Catalog at www.uncc.edu/gradmiss/gs_catalog.html, incorrectly lists seven course requirements.

The 12 graduate-level credit hours, completed through the online Graduate Certificate AIG program, can be applied toward an on campus M.Ed. in AIG for those meeting M.Ed. eligibility requirements. The M.Ed. in AIG degree is an on campus program; however, the AIG Add-on licensure courses, which are also M.Ed. in AIG degree requirements, are offered only online. Contact the program advisor for details.

Teachers seeking an AIG Add-on license must first hold a current North Carolina Standard Professional I license or the advanced “M” teaching license in elementary education, middle grades education, or a secondary education content area. Program admission priority may be given to those currently teaching in North Carolina public school AIG classrooms.
